Overview

The Rail Systems Field Engineer will support the planning, coordination, installation, testing, and commissioning of rail systems in a major train construction project. This includes but is not limited to signaling, communications, traction power, overhead catenary, and related control systems. The role involves daily field coordination with subcontractors, quality control, safety compliance, and assisting with technical problem-solving to ensure systems are installed and integrated efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with design specifications.

What you will be doing

  • Assist with daily oversight of systems installation and field activities.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, design engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure system interfaces are properly managed.
  • Monitor work progress to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Support testing and commissioning efforts for all system components including signal systems, communication systems, and power systems.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues and field conflicts related to system installation.
  • Maintain accurate field records including inspection reports, daily logs, redlines/as-builts, and progress updates.
  • Participate in system integration reviews and ensure timely closure of punch list items.
  • Support documentation control and ensure as-built information is properly captured.
  • Enforce site safety procedures and participate in safety audits and toolbox talks.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience in field engineering, preferably in rail, transportation, or infrastructure construction projects.
  • Familiarity with rail system components including signaling, traction power, and communications systems is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction practices, field coordination, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6).
  • Willingness to work in the field and travel between project sites as needed.
